Up Yachting Part 2

From Cappadocia, we traveled to the Mediterranean coast.  We spent one day and night in picturesque Antalya before heading further east to Fethiye, where we wanted to either take a 3 day trip aboard a yacht or find a boat that would take us yet further east to the town of Bodrum.

Luckily, we found a great yacht cruise on a large, new, yacht.

Our first night in Fethiye we found a great room with this amazing view over the harbor.

Fethiye, like much of Turkey, is home to ruins of all sorts, including Roman ruins.  One of such ruins is a Roman theatre.  And that very night, Turkey's Presidential Symphony was performing in that most evocative of venues.  And all for the student ticket price of roughly $5usd.

We were very happy with our yacht.  Great, new cabins complete with bathrooms and showers.  And while the yacht may hold upwards of 60, 70 or 80 passengers later in the summer, we sailed with roughly 20.  It was great--heaps of room and fun.

Another bonus was being allowed to sleep on the ship the night before sailing (and the night of arrival back in port).  So here we relax on one of the decks as the boat sits in the harbor.

Our cruise was 3 days of sailing, swimming, eating, drinking, water-skiing, knee-boarding, and hiking on the many islands we visited.  This is the view of our yacht, the Pinar 111, as seen from the top of St. Nicholas island, whose namesake is the famous guy who gave rise to good old Santa Claus.

Atop St. Nicholas Island: Hussayn (Turkey), Eleni (Canada), Rich and Mary (USA).  We met Eleni and Mary for the first time in Cappadocia and then next saw them in Fethiye.  We let them know we were going on a cruise and encouraged them to come, which they did.  And we had a great time with them, as we wrestled with Eleni's anxiety over being Canadian (and not American) and Mary's rather disturbing obsession with the outdoor gear retailer, REI.

A great view on a great, sunny, day.
