After a few weeks in the jungle, we figured it was time to head to the sunny beaches of southern Thailand. We had heard wonderful things about the western coast. All of the rumors were true. The turquoise blue Andaman Sea with the limestone outcrops and cliffs were scenes right out of The Beach. We enjoyed Christmas on the beach, kayaking in the jungle back waters and a day of rock climbing. Krabi has a lot to offer to both beach fans and adventure seekers.
The blue waters and limestone cliffs make Rai Leh beach one of the more picturesque beaches in Krabi. Thai longtail boats wait on one end of the shores ready to ferry people around from beach to beach and island to island, as this beach is accessible only by boat. Yeah--no cars.
The beautiful Rai Leh beach.
Rock climber's paradise.
Sea kayaking is a popular sport in these parts. We went for a day trip of kayaking out in the back waters. We enjoyed kayaking in and out of dark caves into lush jungle lagoons and under monkey-filled trees.

The sun sets on the Andaman Sea as we watch from Rai Leh beach.
Continue for our first attempt at rock climbing. |
